Oberstleutnant Wolfgang “Bombo” Schenk earned the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on August 14, 1941 as Oberleutnant und Staffelkapitän of the 1. Staffel/ Schnellkampfgeschwader 210 and the Oakleaves on October 30, 1942 as Hauptmann und Kommandeur of the I. Gruppe/ Zerstörergeschwader 1.
