SS-Standartenführer Max Wünsche earned the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on February 28, 1943 as SS-Obersturmbannführer und Kommandeur of the Stab der I./ SS-Panzer-Regiment 1 of the 1. SS-Panzer-Division “LSSAH” and the Oakleaves on August 11, 1944 as SS-Obersturmbannführer und Komanndeur of the SS-Panzer-Regiment 12 of the 12. SS-Panzer-Division “Hitlerjugend”.
