US WW2 M2 Paratrooper Combat Helmet 2nd Lt 'William C. Aubel' 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment
A true historical Airborne item is this Salty M2 Paratrooper Combat Helmet.
The helmet was a groundfound many years ago in Normandy France and since then in a paratrooper collection till now.
The helmet is a original D-bale M2 paratrooper helmet shell with welded reinforced bales. One bale is broken and the other one still in it's place.
The helmet has on the outside clearly the original paint and the 2nd Lieutenant gold color rank bar on the front and the white painted follow me bar on the backside.
The shell comes with clear damage of schrapnel and big stress cracks of the impact.
The helmet comes with the orginal helmet liner as found. A very nice shell of an early Inland Paratrooper helmet liner with also the follow me bar on the backside. Sadly no webbing attached.
Also on the backside is the laundrynumber marked of the owner XO-7437, indicating Executive Officer with ASN number ending with 7437.
Because of these info the helmet is matched to 2nd Lieutenant William Crowther Aubel, ASN number O-467437, born 24 December 1918 New York and member of the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment,3rd Battalion I-Company. (Regiment was attached to the 82nd Airborne Division), Died of Wounds on 5 July 1944 near Hill 95 La Poterie Normandy.
William got Posthumously the Silver Star Medal (SSM) for his gallant actions on 7 june 1944 during the Overlord (Neptune) Campaign.
Wiilliam rests on the Colleville sur Mer American Cementry plot C, Row 16 and Grave 8.
A true historical named piece that is great for every collection of US paratrooper items.
