US WW2 Grouping Francis Boos, Commander 38th Infantry Regiment "Rock of the Marne" 2nd Infantry Division ' Indian Head'
In a very good condition a stunning and rare US WW2 Grouping on the name of Colonel Francis H. Boos.
Francis was the Commander of the 38th Infantry Regiment "Rock of the Marne" during the ww2 period of October 18, 1944 till September 9, 1945.
Francis Boos graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1928. He retired in 1957 as a U.S. Army Colonel.
Francis served with his regiment underneath the 2nd Infantry Division 'Indianhead' and was awarded the silver star medal:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Infantry) Francis Henry Boos, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, at Normandy, France, in June 1944. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Boos, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
The grouping comes from the estate of Francis and contains next to family pictures, postwar army papers some stunning original wartime and postwar portrait pictures, the 2nd Infantry Division history book some certificates and his combat helmet.
The m1 helmet was worn by francis during his wartime period and also after till his retirement.
The helmet comes in a fixed bale front seam wartime production with prductionnumber 107B.
The helmet shell comes with the original chinstraps and has a stunning olive drap repaint.
On the front of the helmet is a wartime applied Colonel rank insignia attached.
Stunning to see is that trough the olive drap paint the decal of the 2nd Infantry Division 'Indian head' is still visible underneath the olive paint.
Also on the reverse side of the helmet is the wartime 'follow me' officer bar present underneath the paint.
Inside the shell is the name of Col. Francis Boos nicely written two times.
The liner that is attached has the same written name inside the liner.
Also does the liner has the colonel insignia on the front of the liner. The reverse side has also the follow me bar present underneath the green overpaint.
This helmet is a great time capsule of the commander of the 38th infantry regiment "Rock of the Marne" and makes A-Class item in every collection!
